De La Soul’s New Mixtape: Smell The Da.I.S.Y. (Music Review)

It was just over a month ago that the legendary Hip Hop trio very graciously put out a large chunk of their back catalogue for free on the interwebz. Now, they have a new treat in store for us. Smell The Da.I.S.Y is a mixtape available for free download here that is a compilation of De La Soul tracks on top of Jay Dee Joints. If the previous free download was in honour of Saint Valentine, this piece of history is a tribute to their former producer James D. Yancey; AKA J Dilla. J was a big influence to De La Soul who worked tirelessly on many influential records, not just with De La, but with tons of other top name artists before his untimely death in 2006. So with spring in the air and new things growing in the ground, let’s all appreciate his life together. Like I said earlier, it’s a free download, but if you want to cough up some shrapnel, go here to support the artists. De La Soul will be touring all over the UK this summer, and are currently working on two upcoming albums, so look out for those as well.
