Valley Girls Get Re-Visited (Culture)

Like, Oh My God! Whatever? Totally!
If you’ve ever used any of those words, you have the valley girl to thank. This phenomenon was based out of the San Fernando Valley, and popularized by Frank Zappa’s “Valley Girl” which featured the words of his daughter Moon Unit. There was also a movie starring Nicolas Cage and Deborah Forman which had one of the first New Wave soundtracks in a hollywood film.

And finally here is a clip is from a show called “Real People” in 1982 that did a segment on Valley Girls. Say what you will about them, it’s pretty amazing how their colloquial language still influence to us to this day. Like, Oh my god, right?
