Things Just Gotta Change Sometimes.(Culture)

Driving over to a friend’s last night, I had the radio on and caught another amazing episode of ideas. It’s an interview with Jeremy Rifkin, who wrote a book called “The Empathic Civilization“, and it begins with an incredible story about soldiers from both sides in World War One dropping their weapons one Christmas eve. Later, Rifkin goes into who we are as a species, and what we need to do to survive the world we’re currently in. It’s a fascinating episode, click here to here the podcast.

Coincidentally, I came across this great short which covers our species’ dependence on fossil fuels since the industrial revolution. It’s an excellent overview of how we ended up in our current predicament, and what we need to do to change it.
