John Thomson: The OG of Old School Street Photography. (Photography)

The Design Observer Group just profiled one of the earliest street photographers from back in the day called John Thomson. We’re talking wayyyyyy back in the day. After being stationed in India for a stint, Thomson got back into the city and started snapping away at everyday culture on the streets of London. This was pretty revolutionary at the time (approx. 1877) as photography was still rare and equipment was way more cumbersome and heavy than that tiny phone almost all of us now hold in our hands. It’s safe to say Thomson was the Original Gangster of street shooters. Check out some of his work below and go here for the original article to see a fascinating glimpse of yesterday past.
