New Study Shows Online Piracy Less of a Threat Than Hollywood Would Have You Believe. (Technology)

This may lessen your guilt the next time you download your favourite show. A new study courtesy of the London School of Economics seems to poke some rather large holes in the entertainment industry’s claims that piracy is killing their businesses. Last year for instance, box office sales went up 6% – a record breaking year. How about music publishing? Surely that has taken a hit, you might think. According to the same study, while it’s true that recorded music is in decline, revenues from concerts, publishing and digital sales has increased significantly since the early 2000s.
